Fort Western Donates Christmas Gifts to the Center for People in Need
In the spirit of Christmas Fort Western Stores donated kids' boots and toys again this year to Uncle Ron's Country Christmas Toy Drive which benefits the Center for People in Need. Uncle Ron's asks that participants donate new, unwrapped gifts, cash or clothes for those who are having a tough time in today's economy, especially around the holidays. The Fort's donation consists of Western Christmas gifts ranging from new toys to new cowboy boots for kids of all ages. The Fort, continuing efforts to give back to the local community, has also donated generously to a local food bank to further help those in need during the holiday season.
The Center for People in Need, located on North 27th Street in Lincoln, NE, provides comprehensive services and opportunities to support low-income, high needs families and individuals as they strive to lift themselves out of poverty and achieve economic self-sufficiency. In 2010 the center was able to provide nearly 8,000 gifts for low income children throughout the holiday. To learn more about the center and how you can help visit their website today.

Save $20 on Felt Cowboy Hats from Stetson and Resistol at Fort Western Stores
It's time again for felt cowboy hats to come out. If you're looking to pick up a new hat, you can save $20 on select Stetson® and Resistol® fur felt hats at Fort Western Stores. This coupon offer is available October 1, 2011 through December 31, 2011.
All Stetson® and Resistol® felt hats are made in the USA with the utmost care to every detail. The furs selected for use are carefully processed to produce cowboy hats of the highest quality. If you've ever wondered what the Xs mean on one of these hats, it is a measure of the percentage of beaver fur in the hat.
When you go to buy your Stetson® or Resistol® hat, take a moment to consider the crease styles available. While there are many creases available, two common creases are the Cattleman and the Montana.
Left to Right: Cattleman Crease and the Montana Crease
The Cattleman crease is typically worn by men, and is found to favor people with wider faces and a square jaw. The Montana is named for the fact that it was created on a Montana ranch, and adopted by cowboys across the state. It features a high crown to help trap air above the head to keep cowboys warm on those colder nights. You can also find the Montana Crease referred to as the Gus, because of Robert Duvall's characterization of Gus in the Lonesome Dove miniseries.
From Stetson® you can choose from available fur felt hats that are rated 3X and higher, and if you are looking at Resistol® you can choose from felt hats rated 4X and higher. Bison felt and wool hats are excluded from this offer.
Shop Fort Western Stores for a huge selection of western wear and decor at everyday low prices including cowboy hats, work wear, cowboy boots, saddles and tack.

If the Cowboy Boot Fits Wear It - How to Fit a Boot
With summer nearing an end, it's time to kick off those flip flops and pull on a cozy pair of cowboy boots. Though a good pair of boots may cost you more than your flip flops, with the proper fit and care, you'll be wearing them for years to come, maybe even decades. The best way to ensure a proper fit is to visit a Western shop like Fort Western Stores where experts are available to assist you with selecting and fitting a comfortable pair of boot. If the nearest Western store is hours away, don't fret; you can still buy your boots online using the tips and suggestions below to help ensure a proper fit.
What Size Do I Order?
"What Size?" is one of the most common questions asked when purchasing a new pair of cowboy boots. In general, your boot size will match your shoe size, but not always. Size may vary by brand, leather and style. If you're unsure, it's better to order a 1/2 size too big than 1/2 size too small. Also, if you plan to wear boot socks, consider ordering a 1/2 size larger than you normally wear to accommodate the thickness of the socks.
What Does A,B,C,D, EE and EEE Mean?
Cowboy boots often come in different widths as well as sizes. Knowing whether you have a narrow, standard or wide foot will help you determine which width to order.
Men's Boots
B=Narrow
D=Standard
EE= Wide
EEE= Extra Wide
Ladies' Boots
A=Narrow
B=Standard
C=Wide
What's Most Important in Determining Fit?
Cowboy boots are designed for a little wiggle room in places but the "instep" is not one of them. A boot doesn't have laces like a shoe so the instep must fit snug to hold your foot in place. If the instep is too tight you need a wider width, if it's too lose you need a narrower width.
Why Do I Feel Like I'm Walking on My Toes?
The "ball" of your foot is where your foot bends when you walk and it needs to line up with the ball of the boot. If the ball of the boot is too far forward it will push your toes forward so that it feels like you're walking on your tippy toes. If this happens, the boot is too short and you need a larger size or different style boot.
Don't Judge a Boot by Its Heel Slippage
A new boot may feel loose in the heel even with a proper fit; that's perfectly fine. As long as the instep fits snug, you shouldn't have to worry about heel slippage. Over time the sole of the boot will break in and soften and the heel slippage should subside.
Though the general guidelines above will help you select a proper fitting boot, the only way to make certain a boot fits comfortably is to try it on and see how the feels.

Montana Silversmiths Sculpture Donated for Hit and Run Victim
Fort Western Stores donated a Montana Silversmiths sculpture to a benefit for Lauren Johnson and her horse Blondie. Lauren and her horse were victims of a hit and run accident on August 16, 2011 in Hayden, Idaho. The sculpture is headed to a silent auction held by the Northwest Buckskin Club(NWBC) of Oregon to help raise money for Johnson's medical and veterinary expenses.
While out riding, 20-year-old Lauren and her horse Blondie were struck from behind by a pickup truck. Both Lauren and her horse were seriously injured. Lauren suffered a fractured skull and collar bone along with other injuries. The extent of injuries to her horse are still being determined. NWBC organized an auction where 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Lauren and Blondie to help cover medical and vet expenses.
Shelia Payne, NWBC board member, reached out to Fort Western Stores with Lauren and Blondie's story and asked for support. "This is a very important thing to our club, and this young girl, her horse, and her family," said Payne. NWBC will host the silent auction at their horse show, September 9th-11th at the Linn County Fairgrounds in Albany, Oregon.
One of the silent auction's participants will go home with the "Old Glory Flying Free" statue by Montana Silversmiths. The statue features a cowgirl riding her horse while flying the American Flag. Measuring nearly 13 inches tall, the sculpture is precisely cast and hand painted with careful attention to applied patinas -- bringing life-like touches to the finely detailed creation.
The Fort is glad to lend a helping hand to Lauren and Blondie, and wish the both of them a healthy and speedy recovery.

Fort Western Stores Helps Tornado Ravaged Town
On April 27, 2011 the towns of Gadsden and Southside, Alabama were devastatingly struck by a series of tornadoes. Fort Western Stores is helping this community by acting as a sponsor for the upcoming Taming The Tornado bull riding fundraiser in Attalla, Alabama on August 19 and 20, 2011.
Crystal House, a nurse at the local hospital and one of the event's organizers, knew several people who had suffered losses from the storms. She decided with her husband that they could use their rodeo company to help. From that decision arose the Taming The Tornado event.
House is a long time fan of Fort Western Stores and decided to reach out to see how we could help her cause. "I would love to have the people of my area share in my joy of buying from Fort Western," said House.
In support of the cause to help citizens affected by the storm, The Fort has sponsored a chute gate and donated Fort Western gift cards to be awarded to the top competitors at the rodeo.
Fort Western Stores offers a huge selection of western wear and decor at everyday low prices including cowboy hats, cowboy boots, work wear, saddles and tack.

Introducing Wrangler Booty Up Jeans
Booty Up™ jeans by Wrangler® combine the superior quality of the Wrangler Ladies' Premium Patch Jean with patent pending, leading-edge technology to lift and flatter your backside. During the design process, Wrangler teamed up with actual cowgirls, to find out what they needed most from a jean and to ensure the jean not only looks good but feels great too.
Booty Up jeans combine three unique construction techniques to add that extra lift cowgirls are looking for in a great jean.
- Built-in slanted darts extend from the upper side seam to help lift and define the seat.
- A half-moon shaped double riser placed above the back pockets pulls the sewn fabric together for additional lift.
- Repositioned back pockets provide a visual lift for a more flattering silhouette.
Booty Up jeans are constructed of premium quality denim and feature a slim fit, stretch denim, a low rise waist, and boot cut legs.
The Fort currently carries two styles of jeans from Booty Up the Booty Up Carolina Breakaway Jeans in Indigo and the Booty Up American Royal Jeans in Medium Indigo. Either is a welcome sight for a casual day of jean wearing or a night out on the town.

Paula and her husband have been married for 23 years and have two sons and a grandson. Paula decided to give the guitar as a gift to her son Nathan, who is 14, loves to play the guitar, and is a big fan of George Strait.
I was so excited to hear I won the guitar. Then to be able to give my son such a unique gift was priceless! Thank you so much.
-- Paula McCroskey
The Wrangler National Patriot™ program began in 2009 as a dedicated project to raise funds in support of American veterans and to promote patriotism for all Americans. Wrangler® donates a portion of all National Patriot™ apparel sales to charities providing support to military veterans and their families.
The Fisher House Foundation provides lodging to families of American veterans and active military personnel whom have been hospitalized. The homes provided by the foundation are located at every major military hospital in the United States. The program uses donations from interested parties to ensure that no military family ever pays to stay at any Fisher House.
Congratulations again Paula, and thank you to everyone else who participated, and hope you'll continue to think of Fort Western Stores for all of you western wear needs.

The Club usually attends two trail riding events each year. However, this year's Spring trail ride was canceled, as a precautionary measure, following the diagnosis of Equine Herpes Virus(EHV-1) in Colorado earlier this month.
