Fort Western Stores Awards Champs Western Wear Gift Cards!

Fort Western Stores recently donated several western wear gift cards as prizes to contestants at the 2012 Seward County Fair. The fair, held July 31 - August 5, has just wrapped up its weekend long celebration, which featured events and entertainment for the whole family.

Miniature Bull Riding was one of the action packed events filled with kids of all sizes. Every competitor was ready for their chance to ride out onto the arena floor and show their bull who was boss. When it was all over one competitor from each age group of Miniature Bull Riding received a $50 Fort Western Stores gift card. It's time again for felt cowboy hats to come out. If you're looking to pick up a new hat, you can save $20 on select Stetson® and Resistol® fur felt hats at Fort Western Stores. This coupon offer is available October 1, 2011 through December 31, 2011.

All Stetson® and Resistol® felt hats are made in the USA with the utmost care to every detail. The furs selected for use are carefully processed to produce cowboy hats of the highest quality. If you've ever wondered what the Xs mean on one of these hats, it is a measure of the percentage of beaver fur in the hat.

When you go to buy your Stetson® or Resistol® hat, take a moment to consider the crease styles available. While there are many creases available, two common creases are the Cattleman and the Montana.

The Cattleman crease is typically worn by men, and is found to favor people with wider faces and a square jaw. The Montana is named for the fact that it was created on a Montana ranch, and adopted by cowboys across the state. You can also find the Montana Crease referred to as the Gus, because of Robert Duvall's characterization of Gus in the Lonesome Dove miniseries.

The Fort "Gives Cancer the Boot"... in Nebraska Husker Style

Since 1998 the Cattlemen’s Ball of Nebraska has been holding an annual event to raise money for health care research. This year's theme was "Give Cancer the Boot" which highlighted their "Famous Boots" auction where organizers gather donations of new and worn boots, autographed by local and national celebrities, to be auctioned during the event.

When the Cattlemen’s Ball contacted the Fort Western about donating a pair of boots, they were more than happy to oblige. And, although they could have pulled any ol' pair of boots off the shelf, they gathered together a team of boot experts and custom designed two pairs of one-of-a-kind Nebraska Husker Boots, one ladies’ size 8 and one men’s size 10 1/2.

To add even more appeal to their custom crafted boot donation, the Fort teamed up with Patrick Combs, “The Voice of Memorial Stadium” and Froggy 98, country music radio station, to invite the University of Nebraska's Athletic Director Tom Osborne, Football Coach Bo Pelini, Volleyball Coach John Cook, Men’s Basketball Coach Doc Sadler, Women’s Basketball Coach Connie Yori and Baseball Coach Mike Anderson to autograph the boots.

The autographed red and cream colored boots pictured above are the ultimate Husker Fan collector's item. Husker fans placed their bids, with the highest bid of $600 winning the men's pair and the highest bid of $1000 taking home the ladies' pair.
